It’s been a while, and I am far behind on my promise of updating this blog once a week. Here is my excuse: I moved to Cambridge, and it was difficult! I am now a resident of the environs of Central Square, an actual 7 minute walk to the red line (realtors: read less than 5).
As some readers may know, my previous home was Allston. I would use the infamous Star Wars quote from Ben Kenobi to describe it, but I’ve been beaten to it at least once that I know of. Gone are the days of loud weeknight parties, angry porch urination, and delusionally heroic fire-starters. Allston has a lot of cool things in it and I look forward to visiting again soon, but it’s a crappy place to live as a “young professional” (read: yuppie-in-training).
Cambridge is truly an excellent place to live, and I can’t believe I waited this long to try it. While rent has increased, so has livability, sense of community, and convenience. Though my walk to the subway has increased sevenfold, the subway here at least lives up to its name, and my commute has shortened. There are people out and about in the morning, and while I would not consider myself a morning person, the pleasant bustle of Central Square at 8 am has almost convinced me otherwise.
Within a twenty-minute walking radius of my new home is almost everything I could ever want, and we are including things like MicroCenter and Harvard Square. Within less than half of that I can find what most would consider necessities, not to mention a dance party! I’m sure this Cambridge-phoria will wear off at some point, but right now all I can say is things are good. Drop me a line to come by and visit!
